Winner of Millennium Products Award
In 1997, the newly elected Prime Minister, Tony Blair announced a challenge to British business to demonstrate that the UK is one of the most creative and innovative countries in the world, by the Millennium (2000).
The criteria laid down by the Design Council and its judges sought to test products and services submitted for consideration as Millennium Products in six key areas:
- Do they open up new opportunities?
- Do they challenge existing conventions?
- Are they environmentally responsible?
- Do they demonstrate the application of new or existing technology?
- Do they solve a key problem?
- Do they show clear user benefits?
Every one of the 4,000 products and services submitted to the initiative was put in front of a panel of authoritative and highly respected judges. They were asked to judge each submission according to the criteria outlined. But most of all, they were asked to select only those which they would really be proud to call Millennium Products.
The final Millennium Products announcement was made by the Prime Minister in December 1999 in a spectacular event next to the Millennium Dome.

Winner of the North East Wales Most Innovative & Creative Business
The annual North East Wales Innovation & Creativity in Business Competition is organised by the Wrexham Science Festival and hosted by Wrexham County Borough Council. Attended by over 5,000 people, the festival is held over a week showcasing the latest inventions, exhibitions and shows.
The festival brings together the best of local enterprise, schools and families, engaging them in topical and exciting scientific developments.
Detectagas was awarded North East Wales Most Innovative & Creative Business in 2002.
